General information
Solar Playground is the name we have given to our solar energy floor modules. We called it the Solar Playground because it is built outdoors in areas where the public can play on it and interact with it through games or data visualisation.
A Solar Playground installation usually falls under our work in smart cities and smart buildings. Find out more on the Walkway pages.
View the Playground page→A playground installation at a school in the Netherlands normally costs around ***** EUR, excluding VAT. However, many Dutch schools are eligible for a subsidy. The floor is a permanent installation that lasts up to 10 years and becomes carbon neutral after 5 years. New games are being developed that can be installed on the floor throughout its entire lifespan.
The price can vary for smart city innovations that want to use our solar energy modules for larger public spaces. This includes the size of the floor and any customisation. International locations also need to be taken into account in the price. Shipping equipment from Rotterdam is straightforward, but logistics do need to be considered.
All our playground installations are permanent and last at least 10 years before they need to be updated.

The Solar Playground floors are programmed with games for children aged 5 to 12.
The Solar Walkway is designed for urban planning and smart cities. It can be programmed with data of the client’s choice, such as energy production, pedestrian counts or additional lighting.
Our Solar Walkways are designed for the smart city industry, where technology and innovation go hand in hand. They can be installed in any outdoor public space that benefits from direct sunlight.
For example, we have installed the Solar Walkway outside railway stations, at shopping centres and in car parks. Other ideas include pavements, roof gardens and public parks.

The total amount of energy generated depends on a number of factors, such as the number of modules you install and their exposure to the sun.
Our solar energy floor modules generate energy from the sun via integrated PV panels and feed it back into the electricity grid. These solar tiles produce up to 100 watts per square metre and have an efficiency of around 70%.
All components are produced sustainably. The main components consist of photovoltaic panels beneath glass top layers. Where possible, the base is made from recycled plastic and rubber. Some components require new parts.
The modules are placed individually on or into an existing floor.
The modules are all connected to a central control unit that collects all energy and data. In the controller, our clients decide how the energy and data are used.
Installation and removal usually take no more than a few hours. For larger projects, however, installation can take a few days.
We send at least one engineer to install the floors. Depending on the size of the project, this can be a whole team.
Each floor module measures: 600 x 600 x 122 mm.
Each floor module weighs 19 kg.
More information can be found in the Solar Playground brochure.
